3-Peat for the Helena Farmers’ Market

HELENA, MT – The results are in, and Helena has done it again. The Helena Farmers’ Market has officially been named the Best Farmers’ Market in Montana by Distinctly Montana Magazine for the third year in a row, earning a three-peat victory in the publication’s largest-ever “Best of Montana” contest.

“The competition was absolutely fierce this year; our biggest ever,” said the editorial team at Distinctly Montana. “Out of more than 100,000 nominations and votes, Helena Farmers’ Market rose above them all. This level of community support and recognition is truly remarkable.”

Founded in 1973, the Helena Farmers’ Market has grown from humble beginnings into a beloved Saturday tradition that celebrates the best of Montana’s farmers, food producers, and artisans. What started as a small gathering of local growers has evolved into one of the state’s premier community destinations, proving that Montanans value authentic, locally sourced experiences.

Each week, more than 100 vendors gather in Downtown Helena to offer products made, grown, or value-added in Montana, including fresh produce, grass-fed meats, artisan baked goods, handcrafted arts and crafts, and unique home goods that reflect the creativity and quality Montana is known for.

The market’s success extends beyond state recognition. It was also voted Best Festival or Event in Helena for 2025 by readers of the Helena Independent Record, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of community life and economic vitality in the capital city.

“This isn’t just a win for the Market; it’s a win for every grower, maker, food truck, and community member who shows up each week to make Helena the best,” said Andy Shirtliff, Helena City Commissioner and Chairman of the Helena Farmers’ Market Board. “Being named Montana’s best for three years in a row is a huge honor, and it wouldn’t be possible without the people who believe in supporting local and shopping local. This recognition shows what happens when a community comes together to support local agriculture and small businesses.” The Helena Farmers’ Market also thanks Helena-based Intrepid Credit Union for their generous support every year.

This week is National Farmers’ Market Week and the Helena Farmers’ Market’s three-peat victory reflects broader trends in Montana, where consumers increasingly seek authentic experiences and direct connections to the people who grow and make their products. The market serves not only as a place of commerce but as a vital community gathering space that strengthens local economic ties and celebrates Montana’s rich agricultural heritage.
